Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English literature. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout the years, such as fiscal reform, the budget as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
